NUMSS Student Nominated For Poetry

I am proud to announce that one of my osteopathy students from Greece, Ms Despina Kontaxi, who is also an accomplished poet has been nominated for her poetry a number of times this year, including the Leorardo Da Vinci's award. "For Inspirational Accomplishment", the Persona International Anthology 2013-2014, & Honorary Doctorate of Letters (United Kingdom) amongst others.

I am quite pleased to see that we have osteopaths who are poets as well. I enjoy poetry immensely and 15 years ago published a poetry book called “The Burgeoning Songs of Rain”.

Congratulations Despina. I and the rest of staff and faculty of National University of Medical Sciences are proud of you.

Chiropractor Dr Preeya Chauhan Just Graduated from National Academy of Osteopathy

I am glad to announce that my student, Dr Preeya Chauhan, a chiropractor in Ontario (Canada) as well as being a university professor, has just graduated with a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice to become a manual osteopath. I am sure the profession of manual osteopathy benefits greatly from addition of this fine doctor to it.

I am always proud of the caliber of my students. Nothing makes a teacher more proud.

NUMSS at the World Cup

What a World Cup!

This was the best World Cup I have ever seen! Not only we were entertained by great football, this World Cup elevated the profession of manual osteopathy to a new level as three teams had manual osteopaths with them. Two of these teams reached the top 4 (#3 Netherlands & #4 Brazil).
Additionally our university, the National University of Medical Sciences received a lot of press exposure as the manual osteopath for one of the Brazilian soccer players was a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) student of mine at NUMSS.

What a World Cup, so many histories were made, and so many records broken.

Thank you Dad

It was my father, Ali Pourgol, a teacher and author, who asked me to teach osteopathy. When I did, I fell in love with teaching.

He was a teacher for over 40 years and continued to teach until passing away two years ago. There is not one day that I do not speak with him in my heart. I love talking to him and feel he is here with me to see the joy his recommendation has brought to my life.

Today was the first day of practical osteopathic technique classes of National University of Medical Sciences at the York University Heights campus of NAO. I was excited to meet my students. There were students from many countries including Singapore, Island of Macao in China, Norway, and Iran. And the great surprise was that the Doctor of Osteopathy student from Iran, was from City of Rasht, where I grew up, and that she was a student of my father. This Rashti family physician told me that my father always talked about me when teaching and that made me so happy.

Al most every week I receive emails from people of Rasht all over the world who say something nice about my father and remember him in fond memories. He left thousands of students behind who after decades still think of him as one of the best teachers they have ever had.
Thank you dad. I am who I am because of you.
